The drop-add period will end Friday, December 2, 2022. Shopping carts open Friday, September 30, 2022, and registration will take place starting Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Unless otherwise noted in the course description and/or DukeHub, all classes will take place in person at the Law School, barring unforeseen circumstances related to COVID-19 or otherwise. Teachers for Wintersession courses hail from around the country-two are traveling from Latin America-and serve at the highest levels of some of the largest law firms and corporations in the world. Almost every Wintersession class will be taught by leading lawyers who are experts in the course topic. Wintersession also provides students with an extraordinary opportunity to interact with and learn from Duke Law's many accomplished alumni and other lawyers of similar stature. Students will gain a leg up in their future practices as they hear firsthand from Wintersession instructors how the regulatory and structural frameworks of different industries affect the legal analysis and guidance given to clients. Short, unique, hands-on courses are offered for a half-credit, specifically targeted at teaching important skills for the young associate (contract drafting, taking a deposition, creating a business entity, etc.) and providing practical insight about the realities of the practice of law. To accomplish this, Wintersession provides students with a number of professional skills development opportunities. The vision for Wintersession is to better prepare our students for their future legal careers through professional skills training from outstanding practitioners. Wintersession is just such an innovation. But we are always looking for innovative ways to move our students forward and ready them for success in whatever path in the law they choose. Students complete reading and writing assignments before the courses begin. Information regarding course offerings and format (online or on-campus) will be posted as soon as it is available. ![]() Students considering a lighter course load in a future term, who are thinking of graduating in three years, or who simply wish to put their winter break to good use may want to make a Winter Session course part of their academic plan.
